Galloway: Scotland's southern secret
Galloway is a landscape of contrasts with rolling, heather covered moorlands, native broadleaved forests, rivers and a stunning coastline of sandy beaches and rocky outcrops. The natural landscape provided the inspiration for the design which brings together multiple natural elements to create a beautiful sculpture garden within which James’ nature inspired sculpture is showcased.

From the heather moorlands......
Swathes of Salvia, Nepeta and Scabious mimic the vast open heather moorlands. Granite boulders, brought down from Galloway, create the impression of hilly terrain combined with mounding Yew domes. The planting is colourful and textural and a haven for bees and butterflies. A Scottish moorland would not be complete without Thistles (Cirsium rivulare) which create focal points for the eye. At ground level Erigeron, Stachys, Origanum and Sedum spill on the granite paving.

....to the valley glades
A rich tapestry of planting is brought together to echo the valley glades of Galloway. Ferns, grasses, hostas and epimediums provide the background textural interest with Foxgloves, Gillenia, Thalictrum, Astantia and Geranium’s delivering colour and form. The atmosphere is calm and tranquil with the multistem Birch trees creating dappled shade and shadow play.

The Scottish Sculpture Garden
Sculpture and garden come together to create a spectacle which showcases James’ exquisite work at its very best. The natural sculptural forms sit effortlessly within the planting. Beautiful shadows are cast in the water and across the sculptures by the planting and Birch trees. The Scottish Sculpture garden brings a piece of Galloway to Chelsea.
