New build Eco home Masterplan garden, Chilterns
November, 2025
“We love how you have managed to ground the house in the landscape.”
“We love how the design works around the whole site.”
Date: July-November 2025 Planning Application
Location: Chilterns forever family eco home
Client brief: The clients purchased their home on a 11 acre site in 2024 with the intention of building their forever family home. The existing dilapidated family home was to be replaced with a Heb Home designed property. The clients have a love of everything equestrian and had already created an equestrian facility on the site. The clients were keen to design a garden which befits their new home and creates functional and beautiful spaces for the whole family to enjoy.
Site: 11 acres of farmland in the Chilterns AONB
Support: The clients required a design proposal to support their Pre-Planning and Formal Planning Application Process. Approval granted November, 2025.
Design concept & response: The Outline Design Proposal takes its inspiration from the natural flowing shapes seen around the Uffington Horse, Europe’s largest prehistoric geolyph. The site is situated in the Chilterns Area of Natural Beauty and the design needed to be sympathetic to the local natural environment. The new eco Heb Home is immersed in planting which becomes more wild and natural as you move away from the home into the open farmland beyond. Perennial gravel gardens merge in a rich perennial meadow tapestry which, in turn, merges into native wildflower meadows and the natural Chiltern grasslands. The orchard is restored creating a valuable natural habitat for wildlife. New entertainment and relaxation terraces and retreats are kept to a minimum and constructed using sympathetic materials. Flintstone gravel pathways meander around the garden in an organic and flowing design.

Heb Home Design
A new home that looks like it belongs in the landscape. Simple designs which have a connection to the past and are yet contemporary. Highly energy efficient and built using sustainable materials to create a legacy home. UK designed and manufactured.

The Inspiration
The Uffington White Horse is the only prehistoric large scale geolyph known in Europe. Carved into the chalk on a Chiltern’s hillside in 1500BC, the 360ft horse is internationally renowned. The inspiration choice fits the families love of everything equestrian. The sweeping shapes of the horse have been abstracted for the garden design.

Planning Application
The design has been used to support the local Planning Application process providing detailed information to the Planning Officers on how the site will be sympathetically developed to ensure the new home sits comfortably with the Chilterns Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty.

Current
The 11 acre site is predominantly enclosed farmland and there is an ongoing intention to graze the land with sheep and horses. Maintaining the open look and feel is a key requirement of the design. The new design seamlessly merges into the wider landscape which embeds the home beautifully in the location.
-

The Design Process
A key input into the design process is an assessment of the most important views across the site. These locations are often the best places to site key features such as terraces, pathways etc to make the most of the local beauty.
-

Creative Design
The creative design process ensures the design feels coherent and authentic. Design ideas are often presented to clients to elicit feedback and views. The ultimate aim is to create a design the client loves and is excited about building.
